The Special Physical Training Program and its Impact on Somatic Health Indicators of Military Personnel in Fire and Rescue Units

Relevance. The duty activities of military personnel in fire and rescue units differ significantly from those of military personnel in other branches of the armed forces (arms of service). Specific occupational duties at various military facilities negatively affect the status of somatic health. The implementation of an author's special physical training program made it possible to reduce the impact of negative occupational factors on the health indicators of military rescuers. Purpose. The objective of our study was to experimentally verify the effectiveness of the author's structure and content of special physical training for military personnel of fire and rescue units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in maintaining their somatic health indicators during duty performance. Methods. To obtain objective data, the following methods were used: theoretical methods (analysis and generalization of scientific literature) to reveal the essence of the problem and determine ways to solve it; pedagogical methods (testing, experiment) to evaluate the level of somatic health of fire and rescue personnel, as well as to substantiate and determine the effectiveness of the special physical training program at the Fire and Rescue Specialist Training School; methods of mathematical statistics to process experimental data and evaluate their statistical significance. Testing was conducted according to the rapid qualitative assessment methodology for somatic health levels (by G. L. Apanasenko) by medical staff in the health center of the training school. The pedagogical experiment was conducted from June 2025 to May 2026 with military personnel of the Fire and Rescue Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine aged 24 to 28 years, who were assigned to control groups (n = 96: CG-1, n = 33; CG-2, n = 32; CG-3, n = 31) and experimental groups (n = 93: EG-1, n = 34; EG-2, n = 31; EG-3, n = 28). All participants were informed about the purpose of the study and provided written consent. The study complied with the ethical standards accepted in the field of physical education and sports. Results. Training sessions conducted under the author's program had a positive impact on the somatic health level of fire and rescue personnel. It was established that the level of somatic health in military personnel of EG-1 was significantly higher than in CG-1 by 2,00 points (p < 0,01). Fire and rescue personnel in EG-2 showed significantly better indicators than the control group by 1,53 points (p < 0,05), and a higher level of health was identified in EG-3 compared to its control group by 1,76 points (p < 0,01). Furthermore, an above-average level of somatic health was revealed among military personnel in the experimental groups: 5,9 % in EG-1, 9,7 % in EG-2, and 3,6 % in EG-3. The number of service members with low and below-average health levels significantly predominated in the control groups (EG-1: 29,4 % vs. CG-1: 63,6 %; EG-2: 45,2 % vs. CG-2: 59,4 %; EG-3: 32,1 % vs. CG-3: 61,3 %).
