Abstract

Topicality. The high incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), decreased performance and the high cost of treatment make important to find ways to improve both medical therapy and rehabilitation. The effectiveness of physical therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation programs for patients with COPD has been proved. The implementation of modern developments in this area in clinical practice in Ukraine is necessitates. Goal. To substantiate the scope and content of physical therapy for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on different levels of medical care. Research methods. Analysis and synthesis of data from special scientific and methodological literature on physical therapy of COPD, processing online sources, including the database of the National Medical Library of the National Institute of Health of the United States and the evidence base of physical therapy Pedro. Results. An algorithm for choosing physical therapy for patients with COPD was proposed. It based on analysis of 13 clinical guidelines of the management and rehabilitation of COPD, taken into account the laws of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the course of the disease. Recommendations on the scope of physical therapy, depending on the course of the disease and levels of medical care. Conclusions. Physical therapy is a necessary component of rehabilitation during COPD exacerbation and is an essential part of a pulmonary rehabilitation program with a stable COPD. The criteria for choosing the amount of physical therapy determined the patient’s condition, level of dyspnea, FEV1 indicator, level of physical activity and working capacity.
