Abstract

In scientific studies, there is no definitive consensus on which specific physical qualities need to be developed during the training process for flamethrower unit personnel. Therefore, we conducted a study to determine the most priority physical qualities for the effective professional performance of flamethrower operators. Purpose. The objective of our study is to determine the relationships between the performance metrics of professional activity and the execution of physical exercises by flamethrower unit personnel. Material and Methods. To obtain objective data, the following research methods were used: analysis, systematization, and generalization of literature sources, testing, and methods of mathematical statistics. Testing was conducted at the sports facilities and training ground of the 704th CBRN Protection Regiment. Personnel were tested in exercises that characterize the level of their physical and professional readiness. Thirty service members aged 25–47, with at least 3 years of service experience in flamethrower units, participated in the testing to assess general and specialized physical fitness, as well as the execution of combat training exercises. This was done to determine: the correlation between combat training standard results and physical exercises; and the correlation between combat training standard results and obstacle course performance. Methods of mathematical statistics were applied to prove the patterns identified during the research process, utilizing univariate and bivariate statistical analysis. Results. The correlation analysis revealed that the majority of combat training results among flamethrower unit personnel have a statistically significant relationship with the results in the 5 km run, the execution of the general control obstacle course exercise, and the 1100-meter obstacle course run (p<0,05–0,01). The analysis determined that one of the most significant obstacle course exercises is the execution of the exercise as part of a unit. This is explained by the fact that most combat missions are performed by flamethrower personnel as part of crews/crews-in-action and in cooperation with units of other military arms. The result of executing this exercise has the following relationship with most combat training standards: bringing the flamethrower into combat position (p<0,01), firing at a fixed target (p<0,01), firing after movement (p>0,05), changing firing positions after a shot (p<0,01), actions wearing personal protective equipment (p<0,01), casualty evacuation with organic weapons (p>0,05), and the comprehensive tactical live-fire exercise (p<0,01). Conclusions. The research results demonstrated that to increase the level of professional readiness of flamethrower unit personnel and their effectiveness in combat conditions, the content of physical training formats should focus on obstacle course exercises that simulate dangerous situations close to actual combat environments.
